ENG: Jim Anderton's Progressive Party (formed in 2002 as the Progressive Party and renamed after its founder in 2005), was a New Zealand political party generally somewhat to the left of its ally, the Labour Party. The party was established when Anderton and his supporters left the Alliance party. The party held at least one seat in Parliament from 2002 to 2011 following its leader, Jim Anderton's victories in the electorate in Wigram. The party did not contest the 2011 general election and was deregistered at its own request in March 2012. The Government has also confirmed it will proceed with the partial privatisation of four state-owned energy companies. Mr Anderton said the Budget did nothing to address unemployment, lift incomes or build a stronger ...

Progressive Party: Government Response Predictable...

This government has missed the best opportunity in a decade to reform our alcohol laws by failing to take the tough decisions that would actually make a difference to New Zealand's drinking culture, Jim Anderton, MP for Wigram and Progressive leader said today."All the expert advice is that if you put up the price, consumption will decline. But this government is merely asking the industry to provide sales and pricing data over the next year, so that can investigate a minimum pricing regime," Jim Anderton said.Today Justice Minister Simon Power announced the Government's alcohol reforms in ...

A Progressive Party for Auckland's Rugby World Cup!

Question: Why would anyone pull down these ugly old sheds on Queens Wharf only to put up a tent so rugby fans can party when the brand new Viaduct Events Centre will be up and running in time for the Rugby World Cup?! I DON’T MEAN TO SHOUT, but did you know ground was broken this month on this new facility being built in place of the old pink Alinghi America’s Cup base on Halsey Street. I had no idea!Makes you wonder what all the expense on Queens Wharf is really about, doesn’t it? Are there hidden agendas here? Some are beginning to think so… I say forget Party ...
